Eggheads
Follow the Yellow Brick Road to Deliciousness!

Sample the best breakfast on the Mendocino Coast in this off-beat Wizard of Oz themed restaurant

Follow the yellow brick road to Eggheads – one of the Mendocino Coast’s most eclectic diamond-in-the-rough breakfast restaurants. Located in downtown Fort Bragg, this local-favorite serves up a wide range of breakfast fare, with a heavy focus on eggs (as you might expect).

The first thing you’ll notice when you walk in is the Wizard of Oz theme, truly one of the hallmarks of Eggheads. Memorabilia lines the restaurant, a Wizard of Oz themed mural painted by local schoolchildren adorns the wall, and the path to the restroom is a painted yellow brick road. Dishes are named as homages to this famous film as well. Why? Why not!

Eggheads is the place to go on the Mendocino Coast for egg dishes – with more than two dozen signature omelettes, multiple takes on the Egg’s Benedict, and incredible scrambles. Other favorites include pumpkin cream Belgian waffles, a Dungeness crab melt, and the Wicked Witch Burger – a patty marinated in spicy sauce. From traditional breakfast fare to weightier lunch fare, this is an excellent choice for families looking for something for everyone, or real lovers of breakfast food.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t highlight the Dorothy’s Revenge special – a perfectly poached egg, smothered in world-class champagne Hollandaise sauce, with fresh Dungeness crab and bacon. The litany of must-try dishes here is too long to list, and all have equally delightful names – the Tin Man’s Heart (a health-conscious option), the Munchkin Marvel (a delightfully spicy breakfast treat), the Flying Monkey Potatoes (a wonderful vegetarian option), Uncle Henry’s Farmhand Favorite (perfect for the hungry man), and so many more.

Keep in mind, this is a favorite among visitors and locals alike. As a result, during peak breakfast hours there may be a substantial wait. Check in with your party size, and you’ll be given a remote buzzer so you can browse the many shops along Main Street in Fort Bragg while you wait – but do give yourself enough time to wait and enjoy your meal without feeling rushed. It’s worth it.
